πŸ’°Fees

Q: How will you keep gas fees low here?

GlacierDB validates and packages DB transactions into Data Blocks and generates Data Proofs. Data Blocks are stored in Arweave, while Data Proofs are committed to L1 settlement contracts. Therefore, the cost primarily comes from two parts: the storage fees and L1 settlement contract gas fees.

The storage fees:

The storage fees are low. Assume the size of a row in a collection is 1 KB, 1,000,000 rows will take 1GB of Arweave storage space. Currently 1 GB of Arweave storage is about 0.9 AR (~8USD), the storage cost for each row is ~ 0.000008 USD.

L1 settlement contract gas fees:

GlacierDB generates Data Block Proof at the frequency of a few minutes, which is then committed to the L1 settlement contract. The fees for the L1 contract are shared among the transactions of the block. Therefore, the more transactions within a single block, the lower the gas fee that each transaction will need to share.
